The Daisy UK Have A Go Day
The Daisy UK Have A Go Day which took place on Sunday the 26th of March was a great success. We had around 40 children taking part in what was for them new sports and other fun activities. The parents also had a wonderful time participating and talking to other parents with children with similar disabilities to their own.
The youngsters participated in for example wheelchair basketball, wheelchair obstacle race, blind football, boccia, goalball, indoor curling, hockey, parachute games, indoor golf, touch rugby, tug of war and many more.
Along with the sporting activities, we had fun games such as hook the duck, bat the rat, hoopla, tombolers and an exiting balloon competition where balloons belonging to the children, were released at the end of the day and the furthest traveling balloon will win a sports voucher.
All youngsters went home, having had a fun and exiting day and with three gifts such as flowers for the mother, toys and a Daisy UK mug with an Easter egg.
The feedback from the youngsters and parents was extremely positive, a great time was had by all.
A member of the PHAB-club that attended commented that it was a brilliant day, well organised and delivered professionally.
Daisy UK would like to deliver its services promoting disability awareness through sport to schools and other organisations in the Merseyside area.
Hopefully the Daisy UK Have A Go Day will be a stepping stone into the creation of the KENDIS 6′s ‘n’ 7′s sports club delivering sports and fun with similar professionalism, motivation and enthousiasm on a weekly basis. More funding will be needed for this to evolve.
We would like to thank the Local Network funding, HAPEL and Merseyside Disability Federation for their support and of course all the volunteers, staff of the Kensington Community Sports Centre and Kensington Regeneration Project who were very helpful and last but not least all the children that attended our wonderful day.
